Joint Sprains occur when a a joint is overstretched, irritating and damaging the ligaments around the joint. Ligaments are strong bands of connective tissue connecting bone to bone, providing stability and integrity to our joints.
Joints can be injured or sprained whilst performing high impact activities – such as sport – but can also become weakened as a result of long-term repetitive activity.
How can we help?
Wide Range Of Techniques
We work using hands-on manual techniques to reduce the inflammation and swelling of the ligaments around the joint as well as to help with the joint’s mobility. We can also employ a range of other techniques such as ultrasound therapy, kinesio taping and acupuncture to help manage pain levels and speed up recovery.
Longer-Term Recovery
Longer-term joint sprains involving weakness in the tendons surrounding the joint may be best treated with shockwave therapy. You will also be advised on exercises, stretches, icing etc. to help facilitate the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected joint.
Serious Sprains
For serious joint sprains – such as ligamentous tears or ruptures – we may need to refer you for further tests in order to ascertain the level of damage and communicate with a specialist to determine the prognosis and optimal treatment plan.
