Migraines are a common type of headache which typically present with a throbbing pain on one side of the head. They are often severe and debilitating and can seriously affect your quality of life.

What are the symptoms?

Migraine headaches are usually felt on one side of the head (although they can be felt on both) and are often accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea/vomiting and/or a sensitivity to light or sound. When suffering with a migraine you may feel you want to hide yourself away in a dark room until is passes.

How are they caused?

There is no known cause of migraines however it is thought that they can be triggered by things like stress, poor sleep and certain types of foods or drinks.

How can we help?

Osteopathic treatment – including mobilisation, manipulation and massage techniques – can help in the prevention of migraines by increasing the mobility and function of the joints in the neck.
