Osteopathy and Rehabilitation for Sports Injuries
What is rehabilitation?
Rehabilitation involves the restoration of your injured tissues to health in combination with a return to activity. This will involve a tailored programme designed to help you regain use of the affected area, with a view to getting you back to your chosen activity or sport as soon as possible.
Why do we need to rehabilitate?
Although our manual ‘hands-on’ treatments, shockwave therapy, acupuncture, taping etc. can be important and effective interventions, when is comes to recovering from a sports injury there is no substitute for a course of rehabilitation.
Recovering from a sports injury therefore involves some homework (!) and will require you to follow a prescribed exercise and managment plan to facilitate your recovery.
What does rehabilitation involve?
In the early stages of injury this may simply be advice on weight-bearing, strapping, icing etc. however further down the line it will involve exercises to help strengthen, mobilise and regain control of the affected area, enabling you to return to your chosen sport or activity.
Tailored to you
Too often we see patients who have previously been given a ‘one-size-fits-all’ rehabilition programme – usually featuring a sheet of generic exercises – and have come to us as things don’t seem to be getting better. We view these sorts of programmes as more of a ‘one-size-fits-no-one’ which is why we tailor our rehabilitation advice to each patient.
We like to treat our patients as individuals and consider rehabilitation to be a two-way process. When advising on an exercise program we work with you all the way to ensure that the process is as productive, effective and enjoyable as possible in order to expedite and maximise the outcome.
Our clinic based in Chatteris covers areas including March, Ely, Wisbech, Huntingdon, St Ives & Whittlesey and beyond.
