What is the key to getting and staying motivated this January?

1. Take your goal seriously.

If, until now, you’ve thought about it, had it pass your mind every now and then or just mused upon it whilst doing something else then it’s time to decide. Make a decision to go all the way. If you fully commit to your goal then you’re giving yourself the absolute best chance of success.

2. Think about what is holding you back.

Is there something limiting your success? Something that’s holding you back? Figure out what you need to become good at to overcome it, because until now it’s been keeping you stuck.

3. Surround yourself with the right people.

Positive people are your friend. Find people with their own goals, plans and aspirations as they will help to motivate you when you need it and will appreciate your positivity when they themselves are running low.

4. Be kind to yourself.

Take a good look at your overall plan. For example if you’re hoping to begin exercising on a Tuesday morning, make sure you go to bed early on a Monday night. Planning a healthy lunch on a Friday, why not make it the night before so you can grab it and go. It sounds very simple but these little adjustments which accompany your new routines will give you the absolute best chance at sticking to it.

5. Talk nicely to yourself!

Your inner dialogue can really help to keep you on the right path. Remembering to say “I can do this” rather than “here we go again” can really boost you when you need it.

6. Get started!

A sense of urgency will separate you from everyone else. Once you’ve got your good idea – do it now! The more you try the better you get and the better you get the more you will see the point. If you persist – then ultimately you’re unstoppable!

As they say, the only thing holding you back, is you.
