Acupuncture is a part of ‘Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) – a holistic approach to healthcare which can often help when ‘western’ medicine has failed to provide a solution.

What is Acupuncture?

Established over 2000 years ago, Acupuncture is one of the most established systems of healthcare in the world and is part of the wider medical discipline known as Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

What Does Acupuncture Treat?

Are you feeling that one of more of your body systems is somehow ‘out of balance’?  As a holistic therapy Acupuncture can help you with your general health and wellbeing.  Acupuncture is often sought by people have not been able to get a satisfactory solution to their problem elsewhere.

As well as helping with overall wellbeing and general primary chronic pain, Acupuncture has also proved effective at providing short-term relief for conditions such as:

migraines

tension headaches

osteoarthritis of the knee

neck or back pain and

temporomandibular joint (jaw) pain

As a holistic therapy, Acupuncture affects the whole body.  Patients generally feel reinvigorated and revitalised after treatment and often report that several of healthcare problems have benefitted from  treatment.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

As a holistic therapy, Acupuncture aims to treat the person rather than the specific complaint. As well as addressing the pain they are suffering, the acupuncturist will also consider the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of the individual when devising a treatment plan.

Treatment involves inserting fine needles into specific points on the body, designed to regulate the flow of energy through the body – known as Qi (“Chee”) – along pathways known as ‘meridians’.

TCM Acupuncture works on the principle that the insertion of needles into particular points along these meridian pathways helps to re-balance your body’s natural energy flow.

In addition to Acupuncutre, our TCM practitioners may also offer other techniques such as tuina/massage, cupping and guasha.
